About Us

History

The largest CKC, CKC 1, situated in King’Ori village, was established by World Vision in 2011, financed by a German donor. The inauguration ceremony took place in February 2012, together with World Vision and the donor family. The establishment of CKC 2 (Kikatiti) and CKC 3 (Leguruki) followed gradually. In September 2014, World Vision retreated from the project and the three buildings plus inventory were handed over to the CBO Kikulunge.
Since then, the operating non-profit company „CKC King’Ori“ has been running it to make sure that the activities continue. At the moment the operation of the premises is supported by a German foundation, the Schick’sche Familienstiftung. But the medium-term aim is to make the CKCs completely independent from international donorship. However on August 2018 the CKC 2 was closed. In order to reach the aim of independence, we first focus on CKC 1 and CKC 3.

Our two CKCs (Community Knowledge Centers) are designed for the population of King’Ori to get access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

For this, we offer various activities:

  • Computer courses
  • English training
  • Printing, laminating, copying and scanning
  • Internet access
  • Writing and sending e-mails
  • Watching television
  • Access to our library, etc.

Our Goal

  • Making the CKC King’Ori an outstanding education center in Meru District
  • Representing and promoting the ICT services to children and adults
  • Increasing the ICT capability of the community
  • Improving the community’s well-bein
